Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: “Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” (Isaiah 6:8)
I haven’t posted the past couple of days, because I didn’t feel like the messages the Lord was speaking to me were meant to be shared. But today, Jesus surprised me; He took my devotionals from the past two days, and combined them to show what He’s saying to me! And here it is: being sent out by Jesus Christ as His ambassadors and witnesses in the world is done because of a deep faith in His authority and identity as the Son of God, and by the power of the Holy Spirit. Let me explain.
When the Lord Jesus gives the 12 apostles the Great Commission to go and make disciples in His name, He starts it by telling them that all authority in Heaven and on Earth has been given to Him. The implication here is that the why of our ministry is that Jesus is the risen Son of God who has overcome Satan and sin by His death and resurrection, and is now enthroned as the King of kings! An ambassador is someone who comes to represent someone of authority; we are sent as ambassadors of Christ on the grounds of His authority as the Son of Man! In order for us to be sent out by Him, we have to first truly believe and have faith in the truth of who Jesus is.
When Jesus is about to leave His disciples and return to Heaven, He tells them that when the Holy Spirit comes upon them, they will receive power to be His witnesses in Jerusalem, then Judea and Samaria, then all over the world! The implication here is that the how of our ministry is the filling and empowerment of the Holy Spirit! The Spirit is the One who strengthens, equips, and guides us in our mission to witness and demonstrate Christ to the world.
- For me, the problem I’ve been experiencing that convicted me as I received this word was my weak faith. I can’t go and represent someone I’m not 100% sold on, and I definitely can’t preach Christ and be His witness unless I completely believe and trust that He is the risen Lord and Savior! (Please be praying for me) Disciples, believers, we have been tasked with being the Lord’s ambassadors to the world; we need to remember our why, His death and resurrection authority, and rely on our how, His Spirit that empowers us! This goes both for the Church as a whole, as well as those who are especially called to the work of ministry.
