But we have the mind of Christ. (1 Corinthians 2:16)
What does it mean to be influential in the Kingdom of God? These next few devotional thoughts will focus on the who, when, what, where, why and how of being an influencer in Christ!
As Jesus is on the cross, a supernatural darkness comes over the world, and the veil in the Temple in torn from top to bottom. Once He dies, yielding His spirit to God, we see three different reactions: the crowd beats their chest in “sorrow”, His acquaintances and female disciples watch Him die from afar, honoring His body by burying Him in a new tomb and wrapping His body in fine linen, but the Roman centurion who crucified Him recognizes and declares His true identity! How odd, that a Gentile pagan, the enemy, is the only person to exalt Jesus by recognizing what everyone else can’t…
When the Holy Spirit lives in us, we tend to see things differently than we did when we were still in our sin. It’s as if we’ve had blurry vision our entire lives, and Jesus has given us some sweet lenses through which we can truly see the world; He pulls back the curtain and shows us what’s really going on! This is what John meant when he said, “For the Law came through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” (John 1:17)
As Paul is writing his final letter to Timothy, he’d been abandoned by many of his co-workers in ministry, imprisoned in Rome, and knew he would die soon. However, Paul also knew that, even in the face of his abandonment and coming death, he wasn’t actually alone; the same way Jesus knew the Father was with Him when His disciples scattered, Paul knew Jesus was with him in these dark times. In spite of the way things looked, Paul saw the truth of the situation, because his eyes and mind had been transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit! He knew that he would soon receive eternal rewards when he stood before the Bema Seat of Christ, and he’d run the race faithfully to the end.
- How do we live as influencers, as salt and light in Jesus Christ for His Kingdom? Being an influencer means you see people, situations, and times through the eyes of Jesus; with the mind of Christ. The Holy Spirit indwelling and transforming us means we’re being trained and molded to see, think, and act like Jesus! You wanna be an influencer for Messiah? It doesn’t start with a platform or tons of followers, it starts by transforming the way you see people. It starts by seeing with a different lens.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. (Romans 12:2)
